Storage Instructions
Here are a few tips on how to store your sourdough bread:
You can keep the bread in the paper bag in which it was purchased at room temperature for up to 4 days. Never refrigerate your sourdough; it’ll go stale!
Freezing your bread is a great option to extend the life of it by up to 3 months! If you know you couldn’t possibly eat your whole loaf in a week (Can’t relate, tbh.), then we recommend freezing your bread to extend its shelf-life.
You can freeze your bread as soon as you get home, procrastinate and wait until day 4 to make a decision, or choose to freeze it at any point in-between.
You can freeze literally the entire loaf and “revive” it later when you’re ready to cut it open.
Wrap the loaf in plastic wrap and place it in a freezer-bag in the freezer. When ready to eat, preheat the oven to 350°, then unwrap the loaf and run water over the whole loaf. You’re not trying to soak it; you just want the outside of the whole loaf wet. Then place the damp loaf directly on the oven rack and bake it for about 15 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 145-150° and the crust is crispy again.
You can also cut the loaf into slices, place a piece of parchment paper between each slice to prevent sticking, and place the whole sliced loaf into a freezer-bag in the freezer. Pause: If you actually read all of this after buying a loaf of bread from me, thank you! Please ask me if “it’s muffin time” when you see me and I’ll give you a discount! Play: This is the best method for people who don’t eat a sandwich or toast every day, but still want to enjoy a rogue slice or two on occasion.
Toasting Instructions
While toasting isn’t usually my choice for something like a sandwich, toasting is highly recommended in cases where you’re just eating a slice with butter, fruit preserves or jams, nut butters, etc. If you do not have a toaster, you can use your oven or air fryer to toast your slices. Lil tip: you are not necessarily always looking for browning; you’re looking for texture more than color.
From thawed/room-temperature: toast at 400° for 3-4 minutes
From frozen (slices): warm at 350° for 7-10 minutes (depending on thickness)
